How Much Water to Drink at Once for Optimum Hydration

Your body uses water for a number of purposes, from keeping your blood flowing to your brain cushioned to buy a paper, water is necessary for your life. But when you find you are thirsty, that’s a sign that you are already dehydrated. Identify how much water you need on a daily basis, which depends upon your age, gender and body size, so you can always be properly hydrated.

Basic Recommendations

Your body loses about 2 liters or 66 ounces of water per day via your urine, sweat, breathing and bowel movements. Your most basic water requirements involve drinking to replace these water losses. This is where the eight glasses of water per day rule is based. Eight glasses translates into almost 2 liters of water, which helps you replace lost water. However, some people need more or less water. Keep in mind that you also take in water through the foods you eat. Soups and fruits like watermelon have high water content that also can contribute to hydration.

Sitting Considerations

Although you might be able to drink all two liters at once, this could cause you to feel uncomfortable and bloated. Your kidneys will work overtime to filter this water through your body, so space out the water you drink throughout the day. Look at your schedule and figure out where water fits into it. A good rule of thumb is to drink a two glasses of water in the morning, two with lunch and two with dinner. In the meantime, you can drink a glass of water each with two snacks a day. If you don’t feel hydrated or your urine is not clear, increase your water intake.

During Exercise

You have greater hydration needs when you are exercising. That’s because you are sweating more, which equals both water and electrolyte losses. To replace these, you need to monitor your water intake. This includes drinking one cup -- 8 ounce -- of water one to two hours before you exercise, then another cup of water up to 30 minutes before you exercise, according to CNN. Drink two cups of water about 10 to 15 minutes before you exercise for optimal hydration. Then, drink about a half-cup of water every 15 minutes you are exercising. One trick you can use is to weigh yourself before and after exercise. For every pound of water weight you lost through sweat, drink two cups of water. If you have sweated profusely, you may need to drink an electrolyte-containing beverage to prevent adverse muscle symptoms due to the loss of sodium and potassium via your sweat.

Excess Intake

It is possible to drink too much water during a short time, an act that causes hyponatremia or water intoxication. This involves drinking between 4 to 6 liters or about 132 to 200 ounces of water -- a little over 16 cups of water within a small time span. As a result, you can experience symptoms like nausea, bloating, brain swelling and loss of consciousness. Your kidneys can only filter so much water at one time. If you are drinking water to toxic levels, it can have deadly effects.

The Facts that Could Boost your Brain Productivity

As much as we like to use our brain to its maximum, this organ can easily be overloaded. In many cases, taking the time off and relaxing our brains is impossible due to tight deadlines and everyday obligations. And considering that we are speaking of the most complex organ in our body, you surely want to learn how to boost its productivity, don’t you?
Our brains need a little refreshing from time to time and believe it or not, even brains can be trained to be more productive. It is a theory called neuroplasticity, which points out to facts that actually work in boosting the brain functioning.
So, what can you do to achieve this? Read our 10 tips and tricks on how to optimize your brain’s productivity even when you feel too overwhelmed to think.

 An Afternoon Tea

This must look like a strange choice for a first trick for boosting the brain’s productivity, but you would be surprised to hear that it works very well! A single cup of tea helps me stem more than just healthy ingredients. By taking those ten minutes away from writing and working, I get the much needed pause and of course, caffeine

Something New

New things can stimulate the brain and create new neutral pathways. By changing your old habits and learning or experiencing some new education essay samples, you are actually increasing the intelligence level! And this does not have to be a big change at all. It is sufficient to make a minor change like taking a new route to your workplace or trying out a new hobby.

Exercise

Regular exercise is considered the ‘cure’ for the brain. By exercising regularly, you are enhancing neurogenesis and therefore, increasing the brain functions. Every time you get to exercising, you are creating brain cells.
So, what are you waiting for? Stop being a couch potato and get your brain and body in shape!

Memory Training

Pieces of the puzzle
Did you know that you could train your memory? Many people get anxious because they forget things or cannot learn something fast, but this can easily be changed. For example, students who dedicate their time to learning find it easier to remember things after some time, while those who do not have the habit need more time to study for the same exam.
If you discipline yourself and try memorizing things on a regular basis, your memory can improve greatly.

Positive Thinking

Stress is bad for your health in general, including your brain’s health. When people are stressed, this is known to kill brain neurons and prevent new neurons from being created. So naturally, if you start thinking positively and reduce the constant stress, your brain will be in a better condition.

Healthy Nutrition

Nutrition is a very important factor in the brain’s function and condition. The brain consumes over 20 percent of the oxygen and nutrients our body consumes, which is why you must always feed your brain with a healthy diet.
Try adding fresh fruit, vegetables and OMEGA 3 oils to your daily nutrition to boost your brain’s productivity.

A Good Book

Reading can relieve the stress and make you feel better, which is a good way to help your brain relax and promote its functioning. Additionally, people often use their imagination when reading a good book, which is a great workout for the brain!

Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

Imagine that your brain is intoxicated by all the information it consumes during the day, which is why you need to detoxify at night. And guess what – sleep is the best detox for your brain.
You must have noticed how you cannot function properly when not well rested. Well, this is a reason to get to bed at proper hours and get enough sleep to keep your brain in optimal condition!

Change of Venue

Many people go to work in the morning and get back home to rest for the remaining of the day. They may visit the market or jog around the neighborhood, but rarely change venue except for these regular locations. Why not try rearranging your home, workplace or changing the spot for your daily jogging? Perhaps you could walk your pet to a different park once in a while? New places work wonders for your brain, same as new experiences.

Get Some Munchies

Yes, too much chocolate is bad for your diet, but it is actually a brain booster. Also, you can always munch nuts and fruits and eat a healthy diet, while boosting your brain’s productivity when it needs it the most.
Now that you know how much can be done to boost your brain’s productivity, what are you going to do? Get to action and try out these tips to use your brain to its maximum!

Social Media Writing

What is social media?

If you are one of the many people who wonder what exactly social media is, you're in luck because we have an answer for you. Simply put, the definition of social media is this: Social media is a way to connect with other people who are passionate about the same things you are. One of the great qualities about the types of technology available to us today is that they allow you to choose how you use them. For example, you could use social media for consuming and sharing information, or for developing relationships and building a sense of community. It's completely up to you. However, in order to reap the benefits of social media, it's important to put forth the extra effort.

What are the benefits of social media for writers?

There are many types of writers. Regardless of the type of work you create—fiction, nonfiction, memoir, freelance articles, or other types of writing—social media can have a positive impact on your writing career. Whatever type of writer you are, here are the top six benefits you can get from using social media:
  • You can learn about the publishing industry. Social media allows you to learn about literary agents, editors, authors, publishing, and writing. It's an important tool for beginning writers especially because it lets you see in real time how people within the publishing industry interact. This can help give you a sense of how things work.
  • Social media can help you market yourself and your work. Part of marketing is developing a platform and having a strong presence online. This entails building an audience and readership, which becomes an important part of your marketing strategy. After all, in order to build a platform, you have to reach your readers first. If you're already a published author, social media can be a helpful tool for promoting your upcoming book and/or previous works.
  • You can build a network of connections through social media. Networking is important for writers. Social media can help you make and build connections with like-minded people. For example, you might interact with other writers, editors, literary agents, or those who inspire you. You never know where your connections can lead you!
  • You can strengthen and maintain your connections. Similar to the previous point, but equally important, is maintaining your connections with others. For example, if you met someone at a recent writing event, such as a conference, you can keep in touch and strengthen your connection with that person by following and interacting with each other online through social media. You could also stay in touch with an agent who you have queried before or met at a pitch slam.
  • You can share your expertise. Instead of describing your recent accomplishments or your work to others, show them what you do through social media and share your expertise. Join online conversations about a particular topic or subject you have extensive knowledge of, or post pieces of your writing to let others know what type of work you've written and what you're currently working on.
  • You can learn about your readers and/or fans. As mentioned above, social media can help you develop your essay topics about research. Social media can be an essential tool in getting to know your audience. Social media gives you a prime opportunity to learn about them and build your audience over time. Who are your readers? What are their interests? What do they want? Observe what types of subjects or topics they are talking or posting about. Then ask yourself how your work fits into their wants/needs. After all, every writer's goal is to engage readers. You can gain tremendous insight into what your readers are looking for by using social media.

What are some of the top social media sites I should join?

It would take forever to compile an exhaustive list of every social media site there is. Therefore, we've chosen a few of the most popular (and most useful) social media sites for writers.

Twitter

twitter 101
This platform is great for connecting with other writers, agents, publishers, and readers. Writers use Twitter to interact with other writers and authors online, gather new ideas and inspiration, gain exposure through tweeting, keep abreast industry news, and find relevant links about writing through other user's tweets. Before you join Twitter, you should know how to use it and some of the key terms associated with it.

  • A tweet is a status update limited to 140 characters.
  • Followers are those people who have chosen to follow you. This helps you quantify the number of people who are interested in your work/what you are tweeting about.
  • Similarly, you have the option to follow other users. This number appears under "following" and their tweets show up in your newsfeed.
  • When you want to tweet another person you simply type the @ sign and the person's Twitter name followed by your message. Here's an example: https://twitter.com/Special_Essays. Thanks for being a great resource for writers!
  • When you forward someone else's updates to your followers, it's called ReTweeting. To acknowledge where the information you are about to share came from, you include the letters RT before their Twitter username followed by the message.
  • You can direct message, or privately message another person on Twitter. To do this, be sure you follow that person and vice versa. Compose a new tweet with the letter D followed by a space, then the @sign and the person's Twitter username.
  • One way of organizing the users whom you follow is to segment them by list. You can create lists for anything, but most writers have lists of agents, writers, authors, and publishers. This not only helps you to become organized, but lets you see specific Twitter user's updates and allows other users to view your lists.
  • Hashtags are used to organize discussions on Twitter. To start or join in on a discussion, add the # sign and the designated hashtag phrase. For example, if you were at the Writer's Digest Conference this year, you would have used #WDC12. You and others can follow hashtags, seeing everyone's tweets who included the hashtag.

Facebook

facebook
Facebook is one of the largest social networking sites today. You can use Facebook to keep in touch with personal connections by updating your status and sharing images and videos. Many companies and brands are on Facebook where you can interact with other fans and receive exclusive information on new products and upcoming events.

Google+

google plus
This is one of the newest social media sites. While it has features from Facebook and Twitter, it is still growing and being discovered by users.

LinkedIn

linked in
LinkedIn is a social network for your professional career. When you create a profile, you can list your credentials, work experience, and skills. You can connect with past and current coworkers and others you have interacted with professionally. In return, your connections can recommend you/your work to others. Having an account on LinkedIn is a valuable resource because it can connect you to agents, editors, publishers, authors, and writers. You can gain valuable insight into the industry and find unique opportunities in writing through the connections you make on LinkedIn.

YouTube

youtube
YouTube is a popular site where people can share video updates, reviews, and more. Writers can use YouTube to promote upcoming writing events and share professional news. For example, you could post a video online to share exciting news, such as finding an agent or getting your work published.

GoodReads

good reads
GoodReads is a social network based on books, where you create and manage your virtual bookshelf. You can connect with others you know as well as those who like the same types of books you do. Not only can you connect with avid readers and writers, but you can also get insight into the types of books people are reading and emerging trends.

How to run your business from your smartphone

With faster speeds, stronger devices, and more work being done in the cloud, working from a smartphone is now a reality for many businesses. Hardware, software, and networking advances allow professionals, including remote workers and business travelers, to stay in contact and get more done while on the go.
But easy access can have a price. A smartphone can also lead to distractions from games or social media, professional writing services, hitting productivity. Accessing work information on a personal phone can also cause security issues, and accessing personal accounts on a work phone can lead to the same problems.

1. Request a separate work phone
Separating personal and work into two phones can negate security concerns caused by accessing company documents on personal devices, and vice versa. Two devices can also reduce distractions by keeping non-work apps and personal calls away while you're working.

2. Download apps you can use across platforms
Several office staples have smartphone versions of their apps, including Office 365, Google's G Suite, and collaboration tools like Slack. The mobile-friendly options could allow you to work on the go and see the changes automatically reflected on desktop versions. You can also use collaboration apps to stay connected and available.
When downloading apps that you don't already use, look for ones that have a desktop version so you can access notes or documents across platforms.

3. Keep your setup simple
There are a slew of productivity apps and others that offer ways to improve your workflow, but it is best to keep your phone simple, Jeff Miller, co-founder of AE Home Group, said. Know what you need, and don't download more than that.
"Most executives want to install a variety of apps to solve a variety of problems, but this often makes working from your phone difficult and confusing," Miller said.

4. Set communication guidelines
Outline policies for contacting you so you don't feel attacked from multiple communication channels. For example, Phil Scarfi, founder of Pioneer Mobile Applications, said he uses Slack for non-urgent messages, email for formal requests, texts for quick responses, and calls for urgent issues.

5. Utilize voice technology
Whether you have Siri or another voice assistant, use it to accomplish small tasks. For example, use voice dictation to respond to emails, said Alexander Lowry, executive director of the master of science in financial analysis program at Gordon College.
"Once I realized I could essentially just talk to respond to emails, I found myself spending less time with my laptop," Lowry said. "The reality is that I can speak a lot faster than I write."
Voice assistants can also help pull numbers or complete other tasks that may be easier on a laptop, allowing you to continue working from your smartphone without switching devices. You can also use them to set up reminders.

6. Link your business email to your phone
Some companies may not allow this due to security issues, especially if you only have a personal phone, but link your business email to your phone if possible. This can help you answer quick emails during downtime, as well as keep your inbox clear.

7. Try out some tools
Additional tools can help make it more comfortable to use a smartphone, potentially making you more willing to perform certain tasks there instead of waiting to get back to the office. For example, a portable Bluetooth keyboard can help craft long responses to emails or type work documents, Michael Mehlberg from Modern da Vinci said.

8. Check out a remote desktop app
There's bound to be a situation where you simply need access to a desktop. For those times, try a remote desktop app like LogMeIn, Mehlberg said. Having access to your desktop could help reduce the number of times you push something off simply because you are missing a file.

9. Know your boundaries
While smartphones make it easier to stay in contact, they can also make it easier to overload yourself. Know when to turn off your work phone to maintain a good work-life balance, Scarfi said.
Also, it's OK to take phone breaks during the workday. Too much work could cause burnout, which may decrease your productivity.

10. Optimize your home screen
Organize your apps so your home screen holds the ones you use the most, Todd Greene, CEO of PubNub, said. The most important ones should go in your dock, and then the rest can be on your first page.
Keeping social media and other non-work apps off of the home screen could help productivity as well, because you may be less likely to tap on them aimlessly.

Child Development

Having considered the information covered in these three sessions, the following concepts are stressed as the most important ones. First, child development mostly depends on two main aspects, biological settings and environmental characteristics. Second, human physical development depends on cephalocaudal and proximodistal directions. Third, cultural and societal aspects affect a person through his/her individual’s growth, behavior, learning and development. Forth, environment plays an important role in human development, however, there are inborn features which do not change with the development replacement. Fifth, each child develops individually as each of them is given a particular set of characteristics from birth. Finally, each child has sensitive periods during which he/she is mostly affected by environment. The materials presented here stress on early care and child development, the aspects which are to be considered in the first place while studying child psychological development. I am inclined to think that information I learnt from these sessions is going to be useful for essay writing in quality for students and their needs.
Each person is individuality with inborn characteristics and sets. Having learnt the information in these sessions, much has become understandable for me. Being born, each child gets individual collection of particular features which do not change with the replacement of environment. This aspect is very important as while children up-bringing some personal traits are inborn and others are acquired. Inborn traits of character are unchangeable, a person is to possess those features during his/her life. Acquired features depend on environment a child has appeared after birth. Paying attention to these aspects and having an opportunity to define which traits are acquired and which are inborn ones it is possible to change child’s behavior depending on required needs. This information was unfamiliar for me before I listened to this lesson. The experiments conducted on twins separated from their birth show impressive results.
The information about the role of culture in human behavior is familiar for me as well as the importance of social, economic, racial, class and sex characteristics in discussing the effects of environment on a human being. I am inclined to think that the changes in environment are going to affect some of the behavioral characteristics of a person and the information in these sessions has confirmed this fact. It was new for me that the dependence between abilities and capacities, motivation and reason, and temperament and style of behavior has interconnected nature. This information has changed my vision of children up brining and I am going to use it while early care and education practice. It means that to motivate children, it is important to refer to strong reasons, to develop child abilities in one particular aspect one should encourage him/her for using necessary capabilities, and to develop personal temperament specific styles in behavior should be cultivated.
All the information discussed above is very useful for applying while early care and education practice. When a person understands children’s needs, can easily draw conclusions about the reasons of different behaviors, he/she is able to form a deserving member of modern society. Motor and cognitive development of a child should come close to each other. While considering child mental activities a teacher should pay attention to physical development as interconnection is obvious. Early care and education practices applied on children should be different as having appeared in strange environment, a child searches for the activities he/she is interested into. Therefore, when it comes to the development of a personality, a child should be aware of as many possible activities as he/she can. A child is an individual from birth, even though most of his/her needs are obtained while living.

How emerging technology will shape New York City's future

One thing that I've started to really think a lot about is the change that we're going to experience in the interface. I think, the way that people interact with writing a quality essay or interact with things through technology is going to change. We've seen a lot of completions about blockchain as an underlying technology to facilitate some of the information control, but I think the way people are going to feel it is going to be really important. Things like Alexa, and Siri, et cetera, the idea that you could talk to your apartment.
We're still in the mode where we still perceive the interaction with this little speaker sitting on the desk, so we're still in the infancy of the change. We see ourselves as talking to Alexa that is somehow magically turning the lights on and off in my apartment or something like that. I think that's going to become less and less physical. You're going to just begin to interact with things in different ways. I've seen some great technology around IGAZE, and voice control, so I think the interface is going to be really changing very significantly in a short period of time, that gives us the opportunity to think very differently about the user experience.
A lot of conversations around user centric design and all those sorts of things. We're going to have the opportunity to really shift the way we think about how people experience our service delivery because we're going to have this collection of tools that are going to weave together to change just the way we experience it all together. Things like drones, and blockchain, and artificial intelligence, and machine learning they're all going to be woven together at the end of the day to positively impact that user experience.
AI, in of itself, isn't something you and I put our finger on and touch most of the time, but if we experience a different outcome or a different user experience in the process of seeking an outcome that's influenced by AI, machine learning, and voice-recognition, and eye-gaze recognition, and all those sorts of things, that's how we're going to see it actually manifest.
As we make progress in the classroom, which I think will happen over the next five years, as we make progress in economic development, entrepreneurship, workforce, all of these sorts of things are going to progress, we want to make sure that every student in that classroom of the future, when they go home, has equal ability to do their homework because they have the same access to the internet, and the wealth of resources that are no longer luxuries on the other end of that broadband connection. It's just to be a well-informed voter, to be a well-equipped students, to be a well-equipped employee you have to have access to what's on the other side of an internet connection these days, it's just undeniable.
I think, all those things happening over the next five years are going to be magnificently great in terms of strengthening and building the community if we ensure that everybody has access along the way.
